Turn your passion into action

April 2015 | Related Categories: Blog | Community Life | What's New

Welcome to the fourth in a series of essays that explore topics intended to help us all experience a more mindful, present, and connected life. This month, Eastmark Event and Program Coordinator Mandy Rogers challenges us to turn our passion into action.

Cupcakes“Passion is energy. Passion propels us forward. It’s the reason we do what we do.” This echoes in my mind from February’s theme on Passion & Possibility.

I was once told I was too passionate. It’s never left me. It sounded absurd. Too passionate? It’s like saying there’s too much cake. I’ll take extra sprinkles on mine please. My passion makes me happy (and so does cake).

A meaningful life begins with passion. What’s meaningful to you? Daily running? Meditation? Your profession? Children? Your animals? A cause near and dear to your heart? Find the simplicity of what drives you.

How can you turn that passion into action? You need a vision. Your vivid picture of whatever your passion is; believing in something so deeply you can see it come to being. Once you’re there, take action! Set your oven, mix those ingredients and bake that cake! You need all three working together in synchronicity. Act! Do! Create!

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. once said, “As life is action and passion, it is required of a man that he should share the passion and action of his time, at the peril of being judged not to have lived.”

Each time I pursue a goal that I am passionate about, I’m reminded about the observation that I’m to passionate and let it motivate me in a good way. I don’t believe there’s such a thing as being too passionate. So the question is, what kind of cake are you going to bake today?
