Thousands of families arrived at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport on Saturday without luggage or a travel plan. Instead they brought canned food donations for the United Food Bank and enjoyed the Gateway Aviation Day, celebrating the airport and the surrounding community. This free family event brought together generations to enjoy civilian aircraft, aviation exhibits and performers highlighting the unique history of this regional airport.
The songs of South Pacific, performed by the talented actors from The Palms Theatre, rang out as families toured the World War II airplanes. The displays gave visitors an appreciation of aviation, its history and air travel in the modern times with aircrafts from every decade on display.
Eastmark joined this event as the presenting sponsor. When DMB first purchased Eastmark in 2006, we recognized that the primary catalyst for this region and the emerging gem was the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Back then, this airport was primarily focused on cargo and private travel. More than 1 million people pass through Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport per year – there have been more than 5 million total. This airport is the primary reliever airport for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Plans to expand the airport are moving ahead and as the airport grows, the surrounding communities will bloom as well.
Our earliest plans for Eastmark envisioned a strong connection to the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport as air travel has become a primary mode of transportation for business and pleasure. Our close proximity to travel and to the thousands of jobs in the area gave us inspiration on how we might create the heart and hub of East Valley.
Today our continued partnership with the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport leadership team and employers in the area remains one of the strongest reasons for the early success of our community. Our efforts to draw new companies like Apple and Grand Canyon University were successful in large part because businesses recognize the promise of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
Welcome to Eastmark
