Eastmark Puts Jobs First for Area Growth

Straddling the under-construction Gateway Freeway, Eastmark’s direct connection to Loop 202 connects existing East Valley workforce with new job growth. With the highest concentration of advanced degrees in Arizona, combined with Gilbert and Mesa economic development efforts, DMB is readying the ground for new job-focused development. Eastmark housing can wait.
Although the GM Proving Grounds developer announced housing starts earlier this year—and still intends to sell 800 homes in its planned community this year—developing infrastructure is going to meet needs for offices and flex space industrial clients. Nearing completion, the 1.3M First Solar facility will be home to more than 100 engineers and technologists—but its manufacturing lines will remain silent for the time being while the solar market adjusts.
In the pre-recession market, houses were built further and further out extending buyers commute to reach affordable home ownership. The market physically contracted as the jobs and housing crashed over the past three years. Now, DMB plans to use job generation as a catalyst encouraging home buyers to live near where they will work.
